Why a business coach is your professional cheerleader

When I first started running my business, I’ll be honest – I had no idea what I was doing. I’ve been in this lovely employment bubble where I have not had to worry about anything. All the financials, accounting, HR and marketing have been run by other people and the business just ticks along.

When it’s just you on your own it can be overwhelming.

So I decided that I really wanted to get my head in gear and get a good grounding in what it would be like to manage my own business so I decided to hire a business coach.

And having a business coach is like having your personal cheerleader. It was like a breath of fresh air.

I finally had someone to share my concerns with and talk through how to practically run my own business. I didn’t have to pretend that I was anyone I wasn’t. Yes I see myself as a professional so it is hard to let the guard down and admit that you need help. But taking the leap is essential and opens your eyes to ideas of working.

Being a marketing consultant I had been through my own marketing plan but had overlooked some areas. My business coach helped show me the gaps in my plan and advised me on other areas that I may have overlooked. I can be quite stubborn and determined – merely due to the nature of my job – I have to convince people. It was nice to have someone to convince me and to be so positive about what I was doing and cheering me on from the side lines.

When I handed in my notice – she told me she felt so proud that I was ready to make that decision and that she had been a part of it.

My takeaway to you is – if you are thinking of starting your own business, don’t feel like you need to go it alone. There are people out  there that can help you. They’ll be more objective and help you make choices and decisions that can ultimately effect the success of your business. It’s a no brainer – get help to give your business a kick start.
